While it is no surprise that smoking causes lung cancer, roughly 45 million people, 24 percent of the nation’s population, continue to smoke daily.
As November kicks off Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Cardiac & Thoracic Surgery Associates (CTSA), Colorado’s largest cardiothoracic practice, will host their final lecture of a free five-part series highlighting the importance of lung cancer screenings and preventative care. The lecture will be presented by Theolyn Price, M.D. of CTSA.
A graduate of the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minn., Dr. Price is one of only four thoracic surgeons in Colorado performing minimally invasive robotic lung surgery.
With smoking as the leading cause of lung cancer, Dr. Price emphasizes the importance of quitting and explains that while cessation is beneficial at any age, it has a much greater benefit to those who stop earlier in life. Dr. Price further explains that in addition to smoking cessation, screenings are crucial for successfully detecting and treating the disease.
Having gone through cancer with my mother, I understand the heartbreak that family members feel when their loved one has just been diagnosed with cancer; which is why I highly encourage patients who have a history of smoking or a predisposition to lung disease to schedule a screening.”

The final lunch and learn will be held Friday, November 13, 11 – noon at 1514 N Hancock Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903. Complimentary catered lunch and gift bags will be available to those who RSVP. For more information about Dr. Price or to RSVP, visit ctsurgery.com.
